Broward County FEMA Closeout Program
 |
|
In February 2007, there were 180 FEMA travel trailers/mobile homes still remaining in Broward County, totaling approximately 450 displaced Hurricane Wilma survivors.
As of May 5th, all Broward County FEMA travel trailer/mobile home residents have a long term self sufficiency plan. Only 50 households remain in travel trailer/mobile homes, of which all have entered into the "Modified Sales Program" (MSP) through Adopt A Hurricane Family, Inc. This program allows the FEMA residents to purchase, through AHF, a FEMA travel trailer or mobile home at a substantially reduced cost. This exciting program offers the resident the opportunity to purchase a refurbished mobile home or travel trailer for $500. For many, this will be the first home they have ever owned.
In a collaborative community effort with agencies such as… The American Red Cross, Broward County Human Services, Broward Elderly and Veteran Services, FEMA, Florida Dept. of Emergency Management, the Town of Davie, Volunteer Broward and dozens of other agencies, corporations and individuals, we have helped and continue to work with these families to obtain a wide variety of their unmet needs.
These families NEED YOUR HELP to make this long-term effort a success. Whether in the MSP program or not, the needs are great. Rental assistance, personal items, beds and other primary furniture are among their many unmet needs.

Adopt a Hurricane Family
is pleased to announce an update regarding our partnering with "Majic
102.7/The
Majic Children’s Fund" and "Neighbors
4 Neighbors/CBS4"
for an incredible fund raising event!
On May 23rd , "Majic
102.7/The
Majic Children’s Fund" and "Neighbors
4 Neighbors/CBS4"teamed up to host a full one day Radiothon/Telethon to benefit the
hurricane displaced families living in two South Florida FEMA parks. The
goal was to raise funding to obtain secure housing for all
the CB Smith and Easterlin families living in the FEMA travel
trailers… before the next hurricane threatens them.
We wish to thank
the many volunteers from Project Hope, HUD, 211 First Call
for Help, Volunteer Broward and Adopt a Hurricane Family,
who manned the Neighbors 4 Neighbors / CBS 4 phone bank for the event from 6AM to 7PM Tuesday, May 23rd.
Volunteers worked 4 hour shifts, enjoying food and having
lots of fun!
During the Radiothon, for a $25 or more donation,
callers requested or dedicated a song by calling
Majic 102.7 at 1-800-924-1027
-or-
Donations via Credit Card, Neighbors 4 Neighbors at 1-877-411-4242
Our volunteers at Neighbors 4 Neighbors / CBS 4 were seen on television
throughout the day, during news breaks.
We thank Volunteer Broward and Neighbors to the Rescue for introducing
us to Majic 102.7. Without their help, this would not have happened.
A special thanks to Mindy Lang - Assistant Program Director, Music
Director & Mid-Mornings Host of Majic 102.7 and Lynne
Cameron - Executive Director of Neighbors for Neighbors,
for all their efforts in putting this event together and for their
passion to help these families in need!
